WATERLOO - Robert L. Eckenrod Sr., 83, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, July 12, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born March 6, 1922, in Chickasaw County, son of Leonard and Cleo Tucker Eckenrod. He married Fonda Mae Nicholson Stocks on Oct. 8, 1948, in Nashua.

Mr. Eckenrod was a commercial builder for Jens Olsen Construction Co., retiring in 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Fonda; two sons, Robert Jr. (Kathy) and Rodney (Jan), both of Waterloo; three daughters, Judith Pint of Halton City, Texas, and Jane (Marv) Hansen and Janice Eckenrod, both of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Mabel) of Waterloo; and two sisters, Mary Lou (Bob) Haaker of Flippen, Ark., and Shirley Eckenrod of Muskego, Wis.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqualine Pint; four brothers, Donald, Lesley, Richard and Jerry; and a sister, Gloria "Pat" Schwartzkof.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society or National Alzheimers Foundation.
