WATERLOO - Albert Eugene Nielson, 86, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born June 2, 1927, in Cedar Falls, son of Albert and Alice Boldt Nielson. He married Betty Lou Schutte on Nov. 21, 1973.

Albert was a U.S. Navy veteran, and had attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), earning a double major in chemistry and mathematics. He also attended the University of Iowa.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Randy (JoAnn) Nielson of Baldwin, Wis., Matt Nielson of Chicago, Kevin (Julie) Briden of Waterloo and Jon (Tina) Briden of Naperville, Ill.; a daughter, Lisa Nielson-Barron of Haddon Township, N.J.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Barbara) of Cedar Falls; and a sister, Darlene Bristow of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, where visitation begins at 1 p.m., with burial at a later date. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial in lieu of flowers: has been established at the Community Bank of Waterloo.
