CLARKSVILLE - Lyle Theodore Lee, 80, formerly of Clarksville, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Chautauqua Guest Home No. 2, Charles City.

He was born Sept. 9, 1933, son of Luman Theodore “Ted” and Doris Perkins Lee. In August 1955 he married Ruth Weidemann in Cedar Falls,

Lyle graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1951, attended Iowa State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls, and in 1959 graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in business. He served as a U.S. Naval officer and pilot in Quonset Point, R.I., Brunswick, Maine, and Corpus Christie, Texas, before becoming an airline pilot and captain for Eastern Airlines, Trump Shuttle and U.S. Airways, retiring in 1993, after 38 years.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Deborah Lee of Niceville, Fla., Lynda (Ray) Barnes of Charleston, S.C., and Rebecca (Garry) Lee Weibel of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Timothy and Christopher Onion, and Rachel Lee; a brother, Sydney (Jennifer); a sister, Ginger Hood; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dale and William.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, preceded by an hour of visitation. Military honors will be conducted by Waverly Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Lyle enjoyed his career as a pilot, but of utmost importance was his family. He cherished time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.
