DENVER - Charles “Chuck” McCready, 84, of Denver, died at home Monday, March 10, 2014.

He was born May 16, 1929, in Waterloo, son of Charles E. and Hazel Bowman McCready. On Jan. 8, 1955, he married Joan Dargis in Minneapolis.

Chuck served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. from 1951 to 1953. He then served in the National Guard from 1955 and in 1960 was promoted to captain and served as company commander until retiring in 1965. He was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 42 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Tim (Wendy) of Logansport, Ind., Pat (Michelle) of Waterloo, Jeff of Hopkins, Minn., and Greg of Andover, Minn.; four daughters, Michelle (Mark) Doepke and Lynne (Dan) Luloff, both of Denver, Renee (Duane) Aschbrenner of Waverly and Lisa (Loran) Hackman of Woodbine; 25 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delbert, Forrest and Eddie; four sisters, Delores, Nellie, Verda Mae and Phyllis; and a grandson, Drew Aschbrenner

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, both in Waverly, with military rites conducted by Denver American Legion. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
