WATERLOO - Staff Sergeant Thomas L. Bautsch, 40, of Waterloo, formerly of Galena, Ill., died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born May 1, 1965, in Galena, Ill., son of Richard and Shirley Strittmatter Bautsch. He married Jeanette Meder July 19, 1996, in Dubuque.

He graduated from Galena High School in 1983 and enlisted in the Armed Services in 1987 serving in the Air Force and Marine Corps. He had been stationed in Oceanside, Calif., Enid, Okla., and Waterloo serving as a Marine recruiter.

Survived by his wife; a stepson, Brent Gerlach of Madison, Wis.; his mother of Ely, Minn.; a brother, Scott (Polly) of Menominee, Ill.; and six sisters, Kelly (Gene) Noel of Peoria, Ariz., Cindy Glesne of New Diggings, Wis., Neva (David) Schmid and Teresa (Casey) Folks, both of Galena, Patty (David) Murphy of Spring, Texas, and Janice (Terry) Ricke of Menominee.

Preceded in death by his father.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kingery Funeral Home, with burial in the Presbyterian Cemetery, both in Bellevue. Military rites will be accorded by Marine Funeral Honors. Friends may call from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
