WATERLOO - Janet A. "Jan" Pond, 71, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Waterloo, died at home Friday, March 7, 2014, of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 23, 1943, in Spooner, Wis., daughter of Verne and Mary Wetzel Carlson. She married Gene A. Pond on June 10, 1961, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo. He died June 28, 2011.

Jan taught and judged gymnastics from 1979 to 1982 and drove a school bus for Waterloo Community Schools and Columbus High from 1983 to 1986. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survived by two daughters, Kelly (James) Crooks of Mount Pleasant and Kimberly Pond of Tama; a son, Kerry (Heather) of Waterloo; and six grandchildren, Katie, Alyssa and Jenna Pond of Waterloo, Jacob and Jordan Crooks of Mount Pleasant and Christopher Baker, also of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Johanna "Jo" Peterson and Mary "Beth"” Sommerfelt.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.
