WATERLOO - William "Bill" Fernau, 75, of Waterloo, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls.

He was born July 19, 1938, in Waterloo, son of Edson and Katherine Stimson Fernau. He married Joanne deBuhr on Oct. 8, 1957, in Rockford, and they later divorced. He married Phyllis Cain on June 14, 1973, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; she died April 22, 2012

A 1956 graduate of Waterloo East High School, Bill was employed as a police officer with the Waterloo Police Department from 1962 to 1978; was chief of police in Evansdale from 1978 to 1982; and then worked at Regal Plastics until his retirement.

Survived by two sons, Scott of Waterloo and Chris (Joan) of Dunkerton; two daughters, Michelle (Mark) Lux of Fuquay Varina, N.C., and Lisa (Bruce) Wagner of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his special friend, Deanna Grimstad of Waterloo; and a stepson, Denny (Tammy) Cain of Sumner.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a stepson, Larry Cain.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial in Geneseo Township Cemetery, Buckingham. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
