Charles J. Cavanaugh, 80, near Buckingham, died at Schoitz Memorial Hospital at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday of complications of a fall at his home Suday afternoon. He suffered head injuries in the fall.

He was born on June 22, 1891, at Sheldon, the son of Jospeh M. and Mary Lonergan Cavanaugh. He came to this area when he was a young man. On May 6, 1920 he married Clara Witry at Eagle Center. He farmed and resided on the same home site near Buckingham for the past 52 years.

Mr. Cavanaugh was a veteran of World War I, and served with the 14th Engineers Division with the U.S. Army in France. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church at Blessing; and of the Hudson Post.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. William Steimel of Buckingham; six grandchildren: five sisters: Mrs. Lester Wilier of 1636 Hawthorn Ave.; Mrs. Elizabeth Heinz, 948 Kern St.; Mrs. Loretta Bedard of 1003 Jefferson St.; Mrs. Mae Klein of 725 Washington St.; and Mrs. Agnes Lindebaum of Long Beach, Calif.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Harry and Erwin; two sisters, and two brothers.

A scripture service funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church at Blessing. The Rev Thomas Purtell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be a Mass for him on Easter Monday at 9 a.m. at the church Rosary Services will be at the Oppold Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and also at 3 p.m. Thursday.
