CEDAR FALLS -- Robert E. "Bob" Purdy, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

He was born April 25, 1924, in Cedar Falls, son of Lester and Alice Rose Purdy. He married Beverly J. Hall on Sept. 19, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2012.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea. Mr. Purdy owned and operated Lister Concrete and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls.

Survived by a son, Jon (Jayne) of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Linda (Scott) Griffen of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Jonathan Purdy of Waterloo, Jed (fiancee Abby Polley) Griffen of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Ben (fiancee Megan Kennedy) Griffen of Cedar Falls; and his Australian terrier, Samantha Whitetoe.

Preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse Purdy.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service and also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
