WATERLOO -- James M. Stapella, 96, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

He was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Waterloo, son of Clifford and Hilka Adolphs Stapella. He married Helen L. Roeding on July 27, 1940, at Immanual Lutheran Church.

He was a Waterloo firefighter for 30 years, retiring out of Station No. 6. He did finish lawn and sod work for many years.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Judith (Frank) Pince of Minnesota, Lynda Robeson of California and Susan O'Brien of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Debra, Jeff and Eric of California, and James, Tim and Jason of Waterloo; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings.

Services: to be held at a later date. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is assisting the family.
