Funeral services for Thomas H. Wood, 67, retired former police captain of detectives, who died Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital of a heart attack, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home. The Rev Leo Potter, pastor of the Central Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1898, in Kent, England, the son of Walter and Amelia Tomlin Wood. He married Agnes Melendy on April 26, 1935, in Minneapolis.

He was appointed to the police department by Chief of Police H. R. Crumrine on May 19, 1934, and promoted to the rank of detective on May 1, 1939. He was promoted to the rank of captain of detectives by Chief of Police Harry Kreig on April 1, 1951. He retired from the police department on Dec. 16, 1959. He was a member of the Waterloo Police Protective Association, which he helped to organize in 1942.

He also held membership in the Iowa State Policemen's Association and in the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers.

Surviving are his widow and three brothers: E. H. Wood of 625 Dundee; Leonard Wood of 1627 W. Third St.; Walter Wood of 1211 Hawthorne Ave., and three sisters: Mrs. Harold Jolls of 1221 Glenny Ave.; Mrs. Harry MacDonald of 1149 Forest Ave.; Mrs. Elsie Hagen of 1181 Patton St.
