CEDAR FALLS - Russell A. Cantine, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Quimby, son of Germ Russell and Verna Wright Cantine. He married J. Margaret Christensen on June 20, 1943, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls; she died Nov. 29, 2005.

Russell was a 1938 graduate of Quimby High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and his master's degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. The couple owned the Coast to Coast store in Waverly, retiring in 1983.

Survived by two sons, Thomas C. of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Timothy S. (Jennifer) of Decorah; a daughter, Penelope S. (Jonathan) Stull of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Chas and Sam; and two sisters, Zelda Meyer and Cleo McCarthy.

Private services and visitation: will be Friday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, with military honors by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.
