WATERLOO - Bernice E. Garthoff, 82, of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, June 18, 2005, of natural causes.

She was born March 23, 1923, in Des Moines, daughter of William F. and Marie A. Lindquist Fischer. She married Earl L. Garthoff on June 7, 1941, in Waterloo. He died Nov. 29, 1990.

Mrs. Garthoff was employed with Hinson Manufacturing and Bishops Cafeteria.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence (Carol) of Waterloo; two daughters, Debra (Robert) Guetzlaff of Waterloo and Carolyn (Fredric) Becker of Janesville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary (Phil) Thomas of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Ray and William Fischer.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Friends may call for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Companion Animal Fund College of Veterinary Medicine, Room No. 1804 VCS, Iowa State University, Ames 50011-1250, in lieu of flowers.
