WATERLOO - Charles E. Horan, 72, of Parkersburg, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center for injuries sustained in the Parkersburg tornado disaster.

He was born April 17, 1936, in Clermont, son of Richard and Nellie Horan. He served with the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was employed with the Illinois Central Railroad as a brakeman, conductor and engineer, retiring in the mid-1980s.

Survived by his wife, Bonnie; a son, Tim of California; a daughter, Tracy of Colorado; three stepdaughters, Regina Sessler of Waterloo, and Rebecca (Christopher) Williamson and Richeale (Edward) Fischels, both of Cedar Falls; a stepson, Robert (Carol) Burton of Waterloo; five stepgrandchildren, Dennon, Morgan, Brenden, Brayden and Hunter; and two brothers, Thomas (Virginia) of Marion and John (Mary) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two sons, Richard in infancy and Daniel; and three brothers, Arthur, Dennis and William.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a 2 p.m. graveside service at St. Peter's Cemetery, Clermont. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, immediately following the Mass. Public visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
