WATERLOO - Inabelle J. Payne, 84, of Pueblo, Colo., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at University of Utah Medical Center, Salt Lake City.

She was born Oct. 11, 1923, in Waterloo, daughter of Carroll and Ida Moe Miller. She married John Payne on Feb. 11, 1944, in Waterloo.

She graduated from Drake University where she received her BS in 1949 and her MS in remedial and diagnostic reading in 1950.

Mrs. Payne taught for Dunkerton School System, Des Moines Public Schools, the Los Alamos, N.M., Public Schools, and Pueblo, Colo., School System. Her work was often with special education youngsters from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Survived by her husband; a son, Randy of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Carol Hope of Salt Lake City; a grandchild; two brothers, Neil (Marilyn) Miller and Larry (Sharon) Miller, both of Waterloo; and three sisters, Opal Kough of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Rebecca Leisinger and Barbara Meyeraan, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Miller Jr.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity American Lutheran Church.
