WATERLOO - Barbara Lee Gronen, 63, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born July 21, 1944, in Waterloo, daughter of Harold George and Helen Jean Hoffer Thompson. She married Dr. William Watson Gronen on Nov. 30, 1968, in Waterloo.

Mrs. Gronen was employed as an LPN at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, and Edgewater Hospital, Illinois. Later she enjoyed Hall of Fame status for several years while working as a sales associate at the Younkers department store in Cedar Falls.

Survived by her husband; two daughters, Mary (Scott) Hintermeister of Lone Tree and Melinda (Jeffrey) Gronen-Seidman of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; a son, James William of Waterloo; her mother, Helen Jean Thompson of Nichols; five grandchildren, Mason Gronen, Gabriel Seidman, Gavin Hintermeister, Alyssa Christian and Ethan Forcier; and her identical twin sister, Jean Gehring of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Preceded in death by her father; maternal grandparents, Otto G. and Hylia M. Hoffer; and a brother-in-law, Robert Gehring.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with inurnment at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, the church, Hawkeye Community College Foundation or Phelps Youth Pavillion.
