Dunkerton, Ia. — Mrs Ada Carnes, 86, was fatally burned Wednesday, her body, charred almost beyond recognition, having been discovered about 4 30 p m.. by a neighbor, Mrs. Leland Smith
Mrs Carnes apparently had been burning trash in the back yard of the Smith home, and her clothing caught fire, according to Black Hawk Courtly Deputy Sheriff J. P. Jensen. Jensen said the aged woman had been dead from six to eight hours. She lived alone in her home next to the Smiths.
She was born Oct 28, 1863, at Belvidere, Ilinois, the daughter of Christian and Elizabeth Van Etten. She was married to Grant Carnes, who preceded her in 1933.
Surviving is one sifter Mrs. Geneva Bartholomew, Arlington, Va
She was also preceded by three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Guyer, Mrs. Nina Carncross and Fanny in infancy, also one brother James.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Baptist church here, with burial in Fairview Cemetery [Dunkerton]. The body is at the Brant Funeral Home in Oelwein.
