Funeral services for Mrs. Steven Stern, 21, of Freeport, Ill., formerly of Waterloo, will at 9. a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may call at the Oppold Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Friday.

She was born Diane Barnes Aug. 11, 1948, in this city, daughter of Glenn and Mary Christensen Barnes, and attended Orange Consolidated High School. She married Steven Stern March 8, 1969 in this city moving to Freeport a short time later. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church there.

Surviving besides her husband, are her father, Glenn Barnes, of 313 Crestridge; her mother, Mrs. Mary Hand, of Inglewood, Calif.; one sister, Penny Barnes, and a brother, David, both of 313 Crestridge, and a great grandmother, residing at Truro, Ill.

While a girl, Mrs. Stern was long afflicted with a malignant brain tumor at the base of her skull.

A benefit fund was raised in her behalf to pay costs of surgery and treatment at a number of medical centers, one of which as at Boston. Her graduation from high school was prevented by illness.
