WATERLOO - Vern L. “Bud” Blake, 92, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Rosewood Estates.

He was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Meyer, son of Frederick and Mathilda Gerhartz Blake. He married Madonna Klassen on Nov. 27, 1947, in McIntire.

Mr. Blake was employed at Rath Packing Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1985.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Steven (Rita) and Don (Cindy), both of Waterloo; four daughters, Pam Rediger of Rockford, Ill., Mary (Mark) Ratkovich of Waterloo, Ann Fischer of Chandler, Ariz., and Kristine (David) Martinson of Cedar Falls; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice (Larry) Potts of Buckingham.

Preceded in death by: three sisters, Sylvia Kesten, Genevieve Rummele and Virginia Bathen.

Private services: will be held, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
