Michele Ann Brander (nee Heatley), recently of Palmdale, Calif., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014.

Michele was born on Dec. 23, 1956, in Milwaukee, Wis., the second child of William Gordon Heatley and Joanna Louise Ritter Heatley. The family moved to Sepulveda, Calif., in January of 1959. Michele attended school in Granada Hills and graduated in 1974 from Granada Hills High School. She attended California State University, Northridge, and Mount St. Clare College, Clinton. Michele worked in the banking industry most recently Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo. She was with them January of 1996 until her health forced her into disability.

Michele married Edward Koch in 1983. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Elizabeth Megheen Hudgens (nee Koch) in 1985 and Genevieve Rose Cortez (nee Koch) 1987. They divorced in 1995 and Michele and her daughters moved to Waterloo. Michele and her daughters returned to Colorado Springs. She married James Brander in 2005. They divorced in 2010. Michele became a grandmother to Liam Gordon Hudgens in 2010.

Michele loved cooking and achieved gourmet skill status; she loved the ocean, traveling, sewing, crocheting, photography and dogs.

Survived by her mother Joanna Heatley of The Western Home in Cedar Falls; her sister, Mary “Meg” Heatley (Kathryn) of Waterloo; her brothers, Bill (Rebecca), children Brian (Peggy), Jennifer, William and Larissa; brother John (Jean), children Jesse (Jenny), Jedediah, Justine (Jesse), Jamie and Josie. Michele had one great-niece, Emma, and three great-nephews, Ethan, Eric and Blake. She also survived by her best friend, Anita Sherlock-Perner (Lorenz)

She was preceded in death by her father, William Gordon Heatley; her brother, James Francis Patrick Heatley; her paternal grandparents, William James and Margaret Norris Heatley; her maternal grandparents, Rudolph Stephen Ritter and MaryAnn “Mamie” O'Leary Ritter Smith.

According to Michele’s wishes she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in California in the spring.

Memorials may be directed to the family in care of Mary "Meg" Heatley, Waterloo.
