CEDAR FALLS - Alice Gardner, 64, of Cedar Falls, died at home Saturday, May 7, 2005.

She was born April 11, 1941, in Dunkerton, daughter of Olie and Mable G. Eldridge Ackerman. She married Don L. "Dube" Niedert on Aug. 8, 1958, in Cedar Falls. He died June 4, 1979. She then married Melvin H. Gardner on May 23, 1980, in Cedar Falls.

Mrs. Gardner had worked for Wonder Bread Bakery, Waterloo, for 28 years, retiring in 1997. She also had attended the University of Northern Iowa for a year.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Boyd E. (Lori) Niedert of Waterloo, Brian A. (Chris) Niedert of Austinville and Tim M. (Kristy) Gardner of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Tara, Ty, Zack, Derick, Shaleen and Jacob; 31 additional grandchildren; four stepsons; a stepdaughter; and a brother, Jerry (Patricia) Ackerman of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son, Duane L. Niedert; five brothers, Joe, Everett, Dale, Paul and Delbert Ackerman; and a sister, Betty Walther.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Waterloo. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Home, with family present 5 to 7 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
