Thelma Alice Whorton, 82, of 1731 Arizona Ave. NE, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Pius X Catholic Church, by the Rev. Donald Klein. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to p.m. Monday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robert; three daughters,
Rebecca (Thomas) Richardson of Woodbridge, Va., Margaret Whorton-Folsom of Des Moines and Julie (Rob) Spaight of Clinton; three sons, Donald Paul of Red Oak, Roger (Fran) Whorton of Woodbridge, Va. and Robert Whorton Jr. of Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Daniel Gorman of California, Jack Gorman of Waterloo and Michael Gorman of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Eileen Hanson of California and Jeanne Kullen of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.

Born Dec. 15, 1918, in Waterloo, to John and Helen Luhring Gorman, she graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy, Waterloo. Thelma married Donald Paul in Cedar Falls; he died in 1943. She married Robert Lee Whorton March 30, 1946. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Thelma Alice Whorton, 82, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Waterloo, daughter of John and Helen Luhring Gorman. She married Donald Paul in Cedar Falls. He died in 1943. She then married Robert Lee Whorton March 30, 1946.

Survived by her husband; three sons, Donald Paul of Red Oak, Roger Whorton of Woodbridge, Va., and Robert Whorton Jr. of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Rebecca Richardson of Woodbridge, Margaret Whorton-Folsom of Des Moines and Julie Spaight of Clinton; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Daniel Gorman of California, Jack Gorman of Waterloo and Michael Gorman of Kansas City, Mo.; and two sisters, Eileen Hanson of California and Jeanne Kullen of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Anne Whorton; a brother, Fred Gorman; and a sister, Mary Colgan.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, both in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, also at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Mount Mercy Library Fund.
