WATERLOO - Frank T. MesKimen, 86, of 241 Maryland Ave., died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 3, 1914, in Marble Rock, son of David M. and Jennie L. Thornton MesKimen. He married Gladys I. Holt July 6, 1944, in St. Louis.

Mr. MesKimen was owner and operator of Log Cabin Grocery and Rainbow Groceryland from 1951 to 1958. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and became one of the first liquor agents for the state of Iowa. He served as a special agent for the U.S. Treasury Department in California, retiring in 1976, from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division.

Survived by his wife; a son, Frank Jr. of Los Angeles; two daughters, Deborah Dangelser Foss of La Porte City and Rita Tyler of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Lewis of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and two sisters, Davetta Potempa Capel and Alberta Sanders, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Acker-Mathias American Legion Post 653 of Denver. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Family Funeral Care, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
