WATERLOO - Janet E. Munson, 73, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Waterloo, daughter of Gerald l. and Jessamine G. Shadman Porter. She married Royce Havelin on Nov. 4, 1957, in El Cerrito, Calif., and they later divorced. She then married Ronald Munson on Oct. 13, 1950, in Great Lakes, Ill., and they remarried Oct. 29, 1979, in Waverly.

Mrs. Munson attended Gates Business College and the University of Northern Iowa, and was employed as a bookkeeper for Howard Johnson's for 35 years, retiring in 1995. She was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survived by her husband; a daughter, Jana Drilling of Waterloo; five grandchildren; a half brother, Jerry Lampman of Waterloo; and a half sister, Jennifer Shuman of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a son, Dallas Dean Deeds; and a half sister, Jean Gertiser.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Tuesday at the chapel.
