WATERLOO—Robert "Gene" Fisher, 78, of 916 Kern St., died Monday, Oct. 30, 1995, at Allen Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Denver, Colo., son of Clyde and Ina B. Coon Fisher. He married Darlene Possehl in 1940; she died in February 1974. He then married Irene Elliott in July 1977.

Mr. Fisher worked at the Sun Oil Co. for 33 years until retirement. He served as an airplane mechanic for the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Gary and Jerry, both of Waterloo; two daughters, Bonnie Zak of Bailey's Harbor, Wis., and Brenda Ernst of Waterloo; two stepsons, David Elliott of Omaha, Neb., and Mike Elliott of Waterloo; two stepdaughters, Darlene Ross of Cedar Rapids and Diane Kramme of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, a great-granddaughter and two stepgreat-granddaughters.

Services: were 10:30 a.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19.
