Robert W. "Bob" Donovan, 80, of Brandon, died at home Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005.

He was born April 26, 1925, in Lisbon, son of Raymond T. and Mary L. Dewey Donovan. He married Arlie M. Steckly on Nov. 28, 1946, in Iowa City.

Mr. Donovan was employed with John Deere [Waterloo], working in the foundry both with the labor force and in supervision, retiring after 30 years. In addition, he and his wife were farmers in the Brandon area for more than 50 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a life-member of the Bechter-Boise VFW Post 2440 as well as a member of the Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post 30, both in Independence. He also was a former member of the Brandon School Board and the Brandon Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Tom (Deanna) of Robins; four daughters, Kathy (Marvin) Cook of Urbana, Bobbie (Galen) Pettengill of La Porte City, Linda Doolin (special friend, Harry Healy Jr.) of Victor and Marni Kay Donovan of Fayette; six granddaughters, Tori Day, Melana Jordan, Brooke and Brandee Pettengill, Whitney Doolin and Abigail Donovan; two great-granddaughters, Stacia Allen and Nevaeh Jackson; two brothers, Don and Larry, both of Iowa City; and a sister, Catherine Wright of Marion.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Al and Mike; and an infant sister, Dorothy Donovan.

Private family graveside memorial services: Wednesday. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City. His body has been cremated. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Bechter-Boise VFW Post 2440 and the Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post 30, both of Independence.

Memorials may be directed to the family in lieu of flowers.
