ELK RUN HEIGHTS - Mary Katherine Barnes ORand, 80, of Elk Run Heights, formerly of La Pryor, Texas, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at her daughters home in Elk Run Heights of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 8, 1925, at home in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., daughter of Albert Clayton and Estella Blanche Bucher Barnes. She married Norman Beard in 1943, and they later divorced. She married Otto Fay Steele Sr. on Aug. 10, 1952, in Wyalusing, Pa. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. ORand graduated from Hyattsville High School, then worked as a clerk in department stores and at the Washington, D.C., Daily Newspaper. She also wrote songs, poetry and was a painter.

Survivors include two sons, David (Ruth) Beard of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Clark "Bud" (Diama) Steele of La Pryor; two daughters, Regina (Garry) Martin of Elk Run Heights and Stella (Curtis) Johnston of La Pryor; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge of arrangements.
