Aged Woman Dies at La Porte City
Rites for Mrs. Mary Bedenbender Saturday.

La Porte City, Iowa - Mrs. Mary Bedenbender, 90, died at her home on Locust street Thursday at 1 p.m. from complications of age.

As Mary Brown, she was born December 20, 1853, at St. Louis, Missouri, and came to Dubuque, Iowa, with her mother when she was 10 years old.

While living there she met and married Henry Bedenbender and they later moved to La Porte City, settling on a farm west of town.

Mr. Bedenbender died March 5, 1886, and in 1889 Mrs. Bedenbender and her four daughters moved to La Porte Ciry and she lived there ever since.

She leaves three daughters: Mrs. Lena Hecker, who lived with her mother the last few years and helped to care for her; Mrs. Phronah Baish, La Porte City, and Mrs. Agnew Graham, Cedar Rapids; and one grandson, Myron Baish, La Porte City.

One daughter, Elizabeth, died October 6, 1898.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic church. Burial will be at Eagle Center. The body was taken to the Ashley and Waldroff funeral home.

Mrs. Bedenbender of La Porte City
Is 90 Years of Age

La Porte City, Iowa - Mrs. Mary Bedenbender (left) will celebrate her ninetieth birthday Monday in a quiet way with her daughters at her home here on Locust street.

Mrs. Bedenbender was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and went with her mother to Dubuque, Iowa, when about 10 years old; where she met and married Henry Bedenbender.

They located on a farm near La Porte City. Her husband died in 1886 and three years later she moved to La Porte City with four small daughters. One daughter, Elizabeth, died when a young woman and the other three are Mrs. Phronah Baish, near La Porte City, Mrs. Lena Hecker, who lives with her mother and cares for her and Mrs. Agnes Graham of Cedar Rapids.

She has always taken a keen interest in school and civic activities.
