WATERLOO - Margaret Eleanore Mast, 100, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Friendship Village Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 18, 1906, in Parkersburg, W. Va., daughter of James W. and Mary Eleanore Ogden Hagen. She married Guy L. Mast on Jan. 1, 1929, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died Dec. 27, 1972.

Mrs. Mast and her husband farmed in Fayette, Black Hawk and Buchanan counties, moving to La Porte City in 1939, where they ran the Allis Chambers Implement. After moving to Waterloo In 1966 she worked at the National Cattle Congress for 40 years in the arts and crafts department, serving many years as superintendent of the building.

Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn (Howard) Fosse of La Porte City; three grandsons, James (Mardell) Fosse of Boone, Richard (Jane) Fosse of St. Paul, Minn., and Duane (Michelle) Fosse of La Porte City; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Ione Henry.

Memorial services: will be held at a later date. Her body was given to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Nature Trail, Hawkeye Community College Arboretum, or Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements for the family by Locke Funeral Home.

Margaret was known as the "Spinning Lady of Northeast Iowa" for her many demonstrations in schools, libraries and art festivals. She taught many people to spin and weave. Since retiring, she volunteered at Covenant Medical Center and Waterloo Recreation Center until moving to Friendship Village, where she continued volunteering by raising money for the Alzheimer's Association, participating in many walks.
