WATERLOO - Richard D. Amans, 72, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died July 21, 2005 in Sebring.

He was born March 1, 1933, in Rice Lake, Wis., son of Napoleon and Claire Amans. He married Geneva Ruth Kerr on Nov. 29, 1952.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later as a second lieutenant in the Iowa National Guard, where he received recognition for academic achievement and awards for leadership. After 31 years, he retired from Deere & Co. as division manager of distribution systems. He enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards and watching baseball.

Survived by his wife of 53 years; three sons, Rick of Marshalltown, Rob of Porter, Ind., and Deron of Issaquah, Wash.; two daughters, Julie Sangston of Augusta, Ga., and Genny Dierbeck of East Moline, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Bill of Fairfax Station, Va.; and three sisters, Loraine Doyle of Punta Gorda, Fla., Shannon Baumberger of Evansville, Wis., and Barbara Alcorn of Lakewood, Colo.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 1 p.m. Sept. 16 in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, Rock Island, Ill., with military rites by the Moline American Legion.
