John R. Alexander, 50, of Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, following a short illness.

He was born Feb. 19, 1955, in Waterloo, son of Robert J. and Muriel L. Kirby Alexander. He married Judee M. Bagge on Aug. 9, 1975,

Mr. Alexander graduated from Independence High School in 1973, attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology, Waterloo, and the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. He owned and operated Alexander Heating and Construction Co.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Amanda Alexander at home; a son, Michael at home; his mother of Loveland, Colo.; and two sisters, Julie Firestein of Loveland and Betsy Flaherty of Douglas, Wyo.

Preceded in death by his father; and a brother, James.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Johns Catholic Church, Independence, with inurnment in Littleton Cemetery, Littleton. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
