Obituary for Karen C. Poll

Waterloo, Iowa - Karen Catherine (Amfahr) Poll, 73, of Waterloo and formerly of Mason City died Wednesday (April 30, 2014) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Per Karen's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401.

Karen Catherine (Amfahr) Poll, daughter of the Frank and Dorothy (Frost) Amfahr was born November 24, 1940 in Jesup, Iowa. Karen attended school in Jesup and graduated high school amongst the class of 1959. She later attended college in Whittier, California.

She was united in marriage to Louis Poll Jr. in October of 1965 and raised two daughters, Michelle and Nicholle. They lived in Springfield, MO and Omaha, NE before the marriage dissolved, leaving Karen and her daughters to move to Mason City where they made their home. She later moved to Waterloo and was employed by many financial institutions in these communities; where, she played several pivotal roles in these companies.

Karen was an artist in many aspects from culinary, decorating, sketching, painting, to creating stained glass windows and jewelry making. These were only a few of her talents. Her true joy however was spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and working in her gardens. She loved to watch the growth and changes in both and nourished them with her love and attention.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Michelle Poll and her partner, Randy Mahnesmith, Mason City and Nicholle Poll Thovson Schramm and her husband Art Schramm, Altoona; grandchildren, Quintin, Chandlor, Hayley, Cassandra, all of Mason City and Braden, Kalen, and Willow all of Altoona; siblings, Gerald Amfahr, Jesup, IA, James Amfahr, Ames, IA, Suzanne, Rahlf, Mason City, and Terri Lins, Prairie DuChien, WI along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Amfahr and her ex-husband, Louis Poll Jr.
