LA PORTE CITY -Glenn J. Burrows, 96, of La Porte City, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born May 24, 1914, on a farm in rural Black Hawk County, son of John and Olive Sheffler Burrows. He married Frances Arlene Struve Aug. 7, 1935, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mr. Burrows farmed most of his life, beginning as a dairy farmer and retiring in 1976 raising cattle and hogs. He was past president of the State Soil Conservation Board for Buchanan County Conservation Board. He also was past president of the Red Cedar Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, Vinton, and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, La Porte City.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Sharon Burrows of Stone City and Marilyn Spores of Tallahassee, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Kerry (Dan) Solomon of Cedar Rapids and Jamison Spores of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Burrows; and two sisters, Nina Morrison and Faye Able.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday, all at the church. La Porte City Funeral Service, is in charge of the arrangements.
