[Cedar Falls Globe, Thursday, March 28, 1907, Cedar Falls, Iowa]

Mrs. Dora Elling passed away at her home in this city Tuesday morning at 915. It will be remembered by our readers of the terribie accident which occurred at the Elling home some three weeks ago at which time the entiie family at home consisting of three sons and an invalid daughter and the poor
mother whose death we now chronicle were found at an early hour one morning in the throes of death caused by escaping coal gas from the heating stove. Physicians were at one cummoned and in a few hours the children were brought back to consciousness and in a couple of days were as well as usual but such was not the case with Mrs. Elling who seemed from the first to be more seriously affected and it was several days before the unfortunate lady regained consciousness and then only at short intervals was she able to recognize her children and friends who were caring for her.

About 10 days ago it was found that the poor woman had suffered a stroke of paralysis which affected the left side of her body. About a week prior to her death she fell into a stupor from which it was impossible to arouse her and refused her medicine and all nourishment. A counsel of physicians was called a few days before her death and was found that her death was only a question of a short time. Everything her loving children and kind friends could do was done to relieve her sufferings until death relieved her.

The deceased was born in Saxony, Germany Jan. 17, 1845 and in the year 1868 she was united in marriage to Henry Elling to which union six children were born all of whom are living. In the year 1882 they moved to this country coming direct to Cedar Falls where they have since lived.

The children are Valentine who is married and living in Minnesota, Rassmus, John, Henry and Dillman and an invalid daughter Lizzie. All the children were present at their mothers bedside when the angel of death summoned the poor mother to her eternal reward.

In the death of Mrs. Elling the entire community mourns with the family who are much in need of the mother's care and love and especially is this true of the invalid daughter. Mrs. Elling was a noble Christian mother and neighbor and has borne the hardships of life in a most uncomplaining manner.

The funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p. m. at the German Evangelical church the pastor, Rev. Goetze officiating, The burial took place in Greenwood Cemetery where the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband.
