WATERLOO - Rose Mary Nelson, 80, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Waterloo, daughter of Arthur N. and Laurene Rose Diehl "The Silhouette Lady." She married Charles Nelson on Oct. 3, 1948, in Waterloo.

Mrs. Nelson graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1945 and was employed in food service with the Waterloo Public Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include her husband; a son, David (Paula) of Tripoli; three daughters, Cecilia Nelson of Waterloo, Cheryl (Randy) Lowe of Buckingham and Cathy (Bill) Rice of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and two cousins, Bill (Marcie) Van Eman of Waterloo and Jim (Arlene) Rose of Anoka, Minn.

Memorial services: 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway.

Memorials may be directed to the church or American Cancer Society.

Rose Mary and Charlie wintered in South Texas for many years and enjoyed many happy moments with their fellow "winter Texans." Travel was one of her many joys and she enjoyed retirement travel until very recently. Rose Mary collected many things, such as collectible skunks and buttons and enjoyed her membership in several collectors' clubs in this area.

She also had a love of researching her family genealogy, as well as that of Charlie's and enjoyed sharing her discoveries with the family.
