GILBERTVILLE - Winifred M. "Winnie" Fischels, 88, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Waterloo, daughter of Leo and Clara Bauler Steimel. She married Raphael John Fischels on July 12, 1944, in Eagle Center. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1999.

Mrs. Fischels graduated from St. Mary’s of Mount Camel High School in Eagle Center.

Survived by two sons, Harry (Karen) and Duane (Debra), both of Gilbertville; a daughter, Karen (Arzania) Williams of Bolingbrook, Ill.; nine grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Jim) Hughs of Independence; a brother, Loren Steimel of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Mary Steimel of Eagle Center.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Lewis (Arlus), Francis and Melvin Steimel; two sons, Richard and Jerome Fischels; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Steimel.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Order of Foresters. Visitation also will be for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Care Initiatives Hospice.

Winnie was a loving mother and a homemaker. She was a past officer of the Catholic Order of Foresters and also did much volunteer work.
