Shirley Mae "Shirl" Mundt, 81, of Oelwein, died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence.

She was born May 17, 1932, in Waterloo, daughter of Edgar L. and Esther Zerkle Power. She married William Robert Mundt on July 1, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She attended East High School in Waterloo. Mrs. Mundt was a homemaker and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survived by her husband; three children, Terry Mundt of Waterloo, Cherie (Eugene) Parrish of Oelwein and Donald Mundt of Oelwein; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wally (Jan) Robinson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery, rural Oelwein. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home .

Memorials may be directed in her name to Hub City Heritage Railroad Museum.
