EVANSDALE - One man is dead and another is hospitalized following a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 380 Saturday morning.

Adam John Fish, 21, of Evansdale, died after he was apparently thrown from the car when this vehicle rolled several times, said Evansdale Police Chief Michael Burke.

The injured man is Matthew Drewelow, 25 and also of Evansdale.

It wasn't immediately known who was driving the vehicle, a black Camaro, but the vehicle is registered to Drewelow, Burke said.

The car came to rest on its wheels facing east in the westbound lane but avoided being hit by other vehicles in the pre-dawn darkness.

"It was a good thing nobody else was traversing through there," Burke said.

The accident closed down a portion of the highway for more than an hour while officers investigated.

Burke said both men were apparently headed home when the driver lost control of his car at about 1:45 a.m. while he was traveling east on Interstate 380 near the McCoy Road overpass.

An initial investigation of the accident scene determined the Camaro hit a guard rail, flipped on its side and rolled a number of times before it crossed into the oncoming lane, Burke said.

Fish was completely thrown from the car, and Drewelow was partially ejected, Burke said.

Evansdale police called in troopers with the Iowa State Patrol to perform an in-depth study of the accident. Volunteer crews from Evansdale Fire Rescue also assisted with the incident.

Services for Fish will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of The Open Bible in Waterloo. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kearns, Huisman Schumacher Chapel on Kimball and also an hour before the services at the church.

A later article said Matthew Charles Drewelow was the driver.
