WATERLOO - Larry R. Spence, 73, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born May 22, 1932, in Bethany, Mo., son of William and Mary Elizabeth Madison Spence. He married Betty Maize on Feb. 25, 1953, in Bethany.

Mr. Spence worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 41 years as a machine operator and inspector, retiring in 1986. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rhonda (Ken) Severson of Marshalltown; two sons, Rick B. (Molly) of Waterloo and Jeff (Kathy) of Elk Run Heights; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Laffoon of Kansas City, Mo.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, with private family inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 19. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
