TOVAR, ZUNIGA, DRUMMY, DUENAS, CAUGHRON

One man was killed and another injured at 8:30 a.m. Thursday while the two were attempting to install a display sign at the Hawkeye Steel Company, 324 Duryca St.

Dead on arrival at St. Francis Hospital was Jesse Tovar, 36, of 620 Lakeside St. Being treated at St. Francis for injuries received was James McCarter, 21. of Cedar Falls.

According to police Tovar and McCarter were in a bucket a! the top of a boom truck when the boom broke and the two plunged 35 to 40 feet to a cement sidewalk.

Police said Tovar apparently was thrown out of the basket while McCarter remained inside. Both men were employed by Display Sign Service.

Funeral services for Jesse Tovar, 36, of 620 Lakeside St., fatally injured Thursday morning while working on the installation of a sign at the Hawkeye Steel Products Company, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the pastor, the Rt. Rev. Ernest Ament, officiating. A parish rosary service is planned for Friday at 8 p.m. at the Oppold Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Tovar was born here Jan. 7, 1934, son of Juan and Felizia Zuniga Tovar, and married Mary Margaret (Peggy) Drummy, here on June 9, 1956. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and choir.

Since his graduation from high school he had been an employee of the Display Sign Service, except for the period from 1954 to 1956 when he served in the army in Korea.

Surviving Mr. Tovar are his wife; one son, Michael, at home; his parents, the Juan Tovars of 52½ Lafayette St.; along with seven brothers and two sisters.

The brothers are: S-Sgt. Pedro, Baltimore, Md.; Magdalano (Mike), of 501 Kirkwood Ave.; Manuel, Portland, Ore.; John of 708 Marsh St.; Daniel, of 626 Hickory St.; and Patrick, of 52½ Lafayette St. The sisters are Mrs. Larry Duenas, of 219 Lafayette St., and Mrs. Larry Caughron, of rural Waterloo.
