Richard Wayne “Dick” Turner, 87, of Waverly, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Henry G. and Roberta Lydia “Ruby” McMillin Turner. He married Dorothy Roberts on Oct. 28, 1942, in Lancaster, Mo. She died May 4, 2007.

Mr. Turner graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1940, then attended Gates Business College, Waterloo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Izard. He worked as a tool and die maker for Schoitz Engineering and Chamberlain Corp., both in Waterloo, and H&H Machine Tool Co. of Iowa, Cedar Falls, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly.

Survived by a son, Richard J. (Sharon) of Lakeland, Minn.; two daughters, Jo Ann Turner of Largo, Fla., and Judy (Steve) Strotman of Waverly; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ted of Waterloo, Ron (Aggie) of Byran, Texas, Dr. Robert (Karen) Turner of Albuquerque, N.M., and Floyd (Alberta) of Canon, Colo.; and a sister, Ruby (Bruce) Schroeder of Whitewater, Wis.

Preceded in death by a brother, Don.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by Waverly American Legion Post 176 will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or the Cedar Valley Food Bank.
