Irma L. Gossman, 97, of Encinitas, California, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday September 6, 2007, at home.

She was born March 16, 1910 in Taunton, Minnesota, daughter of John and Eleanor Hayek Polansky.

She married Clement V. Gossman on August 25, 1936 in Decorah, Iowa. He died May 18, 1963. Irma was employed as a registered nurse at Allen Hospital retiring in 1974. She was selected in 1989 as the Elder Citizen of the Year an award from the Center of Vintage Life at Covenant Medical Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Sara Hoff of Encinitas CA abd three grandchildren.

She was preceded by one sister, Leone Thornton.

Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, September 13, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 3:00 pm rosary by the Legion of Mary, and a vigil at 5:00 pm. Visitation also for an hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
