WATERLOO - Adrian A. Schmitz, 80, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, surrounded by his family.

He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Lourdes, son of William and Mary Schmitz Schmitz. He married Mary Lou Eichorst on Oct. 18, 1949, in Waterloo. She died Aug. 15, 1979. He married Evaan Beck on Aug. 17, 1995, in Waterloo.

Mr. Schmitz was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. As a young man he farmed for the Gunn family. After serving in the U.S. Army, he was employed at Rath Packing Co. until 1982 and operated his own window washing business for 45 years. He also worked at Pilot House Antiques.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael (Ronda) and Gregory, both of Waterloo, and Timothy (Mary) of DePere, Wis.; four daughters, Mary (Ken) Baker of Waterloo, Therese (Jeff) Orr of Marion, Julianne Schmitz of Dysart and Kathleen (Don) Montgomery of Platte City, Mo.; four stepdaughters, Sandra (Bill) Naylor of Grundy Center, Karen (Rick) Wagner of Harpers Ferry, Connie (Jan) Cooper of Traer and Annette (Terry) Bagg of Waterloo; a stepson, Raymond (Kristi) Beck of Waterloo; 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Kleinendorst of Fairbank, Magdalene Reuter of Marshalltown and Elizabeth Kinney of Waterloo; and a brother, Edmund (Darlene) Schmitz of Gladbrook.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Raphael (Ray), Gerald and James; two sisters, Evarista Oberheu and Evelyn Schmitz; a grandson, Joshua Schmitz; a granddaughter, Gabrielle Orr; a great-grandson, Christopher Bass; a stepdaughter, Beverly Beck; a stepgrandson, Jason Cooper; and stepgreat-grandson, Blake Finke.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.
