WATERLOO - Arthur R. Sines, 90, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Martin Center of the Western Home, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Washington County, son of Henry and Minnie Stover Sines. He married Mildred Cue Oct. 12, 1940, in Oelwein. She preceded him in death Jan. 23, 1993.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Sines retired from John Deere Tractor works in 1977 after 31 years of service as a machinist. He then worked for 15 years at Coburn's Sports Supply as a gunsmith.

He was a member of the Washburn and Reinbeck Izaak Walton League and the Cedar Falls and Newton Gun Clubs as well as the U.A.W. #838.

Survived by three sons, Richard "Dick" (Bonnie ) of Waterloo, Ronald (Trudi) of Bettendorf and Randy of Shell Rock; a daughter, Judith K. (Sam) Chapman of Brentwood, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Betty Sines of Hiawatha, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, Kari (James) Monahan of Keller, Texas, Kristie Chapman of Nashville, Tenn., Robert (Paula) Thome and Gary Thome, both of Raymond, Steven (Stephanie) Thome of La Porte City, Sheila (David) Sines Thomasson of Charleston, S.C., Reon Sines of Kirksville, Mo., Ryan Sines of Port Washington, Wis., Eric Sines of Atlanta and Adam Sines of Bettendorf; seven great-grandchildren, James Monahan Jr. and Michele Monahan, both of Keller, Sarah Thome and Samantha Thome, both of Raymond, Kyra and Kanyan Thome, both of La Porte City, and Isabella Sines Thomasson of Charleston; and a great-great-grandchild, Isabel Monahan of Keller.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Rae Thome; three brothers, Perry, Lacy and Dutch; and five sisters, Lucy Baker, Rosie Pencil, Iva Barr, Goldie Hughes and Waivie Fox.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
