WATERLOO -- Darlene Margaret Sbiral, 84, of Waterloo, died at home Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, of natural causes.

She was born March 2, 1929, near Cresco, daughter of Otto and Irene McCarville Frank. She married Leonard Sbiral on Jan. 25, 1951, in Schley. He died April 24, 2006.

She graduated from Rudolphinum High School, Protivin, and received a teaching certificate from Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She taught in several one room schoolhouses. Mrs. Sbiral then graduated in 1963 from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, with a major in speech pathology and a minor in English. She later did graduate studies in audiology and worked for 29 years at AEA7 before retiring in 1990.

Survived by two daughters, Kay Sbiral of Waterloo and Jocelyn (Rodney) Andreassen of Bondurant; three grandchildren, Katie (Elias) Ojiambo of Ankeny, Matthew Andreassen of Waterloo and Jared Andreassen of Woodward; four sisters, Gladys (John) Bylander of North Little Rock, Ark., Lucille Valentine of Las Vegas, Alice Lunsford of Claremore, Okla., and Edith (Alan) Duncan of Palmdale, Calif.; three brothers, Allen (Helen) Frank of Gilbertville, Kenneth Frank of Cresco and Gerald Frank of Riceville; a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Otto) Frank of Waterloo; a brother-in-law, Joe (Delores) Wendl of Maplewood, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters, Mary Therese and Mary Margaret; a son, Steven; two sisters, Luane Frank and Delores Wendl; four brothers, Otto Jr., Arthur, Merlin and Lester Frank; three brothers-in-law, John Bylander, Mel Lunsford and Joe Martinelli.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Protivin. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 3 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
