REINBECK — Melvin Dean Thede, 63, of Reinbeck, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, from complications of surgery.

He was born Feb. 17, 1949, in Cedar Falls, son of Raymond and Helene Cheeseman Thede. He married Nyola Anderson on June 22, 1974, and they later divorced.

Mr. Thede graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1967. He worked for the Reinbeck Co-op for more than 40 years and was a member of the Reinbeck Fire Department.

Survived by his companion, Dawn Larsen; four sons, Jeremy (Cortney) Thede of Johnston, Chris (Bethany) Thede of Cedar Falls, Ash (Angie) Larsen of Reinbeck and Alec Larsen of Dike; two daughters, Traci (Charlie) Trunck of Hudson and Audra (Adam) Heineman of Waterloo; and six grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Evelyn Thede; and a son, Jesse.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, Reinbeck, with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at French-Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck.
