WATERLOO -- William D. “Bill” Efting, 84, of Waterloo, died Oct. 31, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Sheldon, son of Gerrit and Mae Druger Efting. He married Lucille “Lu” Van Vooren on Nov. 19, 1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Efting finished high school while serving in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949 and later graduated from barber school in Sioux City. He owned the Marsh Place Barber Shop for 40 years and worked part time in sporting goods at JC Penney Co. from 1975 to 1992. He was the voice of Waterloo Baseball in 1970s and 1980s. He was a member of Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and was secretary/treasurer for the AMVETS Bowling League for 20 years.

Survived by a son, Jim (Liz)of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Cindy Efting Klein of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Lisa Teramo of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Mary Curtiss of Scotts Valley, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Charlie, Meredith, and Katherine Klein, Maria, Annie, Luke and John Efting, Nate, Ben and Gracie Teramo, and Mitchell, Griffin and Will Curtiss; and two sisters, LaSalle Gasahl of East Moline, Ill., and Geneva Petersen of Sibley.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and John; and an infant sister, Shirley.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, preceded by an hour of visitation, with military rites by American Legion and VFW.

Memorials may be directed to Honor Flight through Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Cedar Valley Hospice.
