WATERLOO - Doyle R. Miller, 93, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Windhaven Assisted Living Center, Cedar Falls.

He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Humeston, son of Bernard “Rush” and Pearl McDowell Miller. He married Verna J. Simonsen on Oct. 12, 1941, in Princeton, Mo. She died Sept. 1, 2010.

Mr. Miller graduated from Beaconsfield High School, Beaconsfield. He was employed as a special delivery carrier for the U.S. Postal service for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tank driver in the European Theater. His memberships included Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postal Retirees, and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Survived by a son, Jim (Kim) of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Julie (Michael) Simbric of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Jeff (Steff) Simbric, Jennifer (Adam) Wedeking, Sara Simbric, Jay Miller and Kory Miller; three great-grandchildren, Jordin and Logan Simbric and Morgan Wedeking; a brother, Clem (Carol) Hamilton Jr. of Elk Run Heights; and a sister, Geraldine Crowley.

Preceded in death by his stepfather, Clem Hamilton Sr.; his stepmother, Goldie Miller; a brother, Russel; and two sisters, Bernadine Heinen and Marjorie Drake.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, and an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49, Western Home Communities, American Red Cross-Hawkeye Chapter or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Doyle was a wounded Prisoner of War the last four months of World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.
