WATERLOO - John William Loeb, 95, formerly of Waterloo, died Nov. 13, 2013, at The Webb Retirement House, Smithville, Tenn.

He was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Nichols, son of William and Laura Nash Loeb. He married Ruth Hignett in 1940; she preceded him in death.

Mr. Loeb graduated from high school in Nichols and received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He was a teacher and counselor, and had worked with the Dysart, Waverly and Waterloo school systems until his retirement. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Waterloo.

Survived by a daughter, Sharon (Dick) Mueller of in Guatemala, Central America; a son, Jack (Betty Turner-Loeb) of Smithville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Kenneth.

Memorial services were held today at The Webb House Chapel.
