Mildred E. Stewart, 89, of Hampton, died Friday, June 30, at Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility, Hampton, of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Henri and Bertha Wilbur Paul. She married A.T. Stewart on July 18, 1947, in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Stewart graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1936. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls, for a short time, then attended Pitze's Waterloo School of Beauty Culture. She was a beautician for more than 40 years, working out of her own home. She started as a volunteer with Life Line when it first started in 1983 and also was a volunteer with hospice. She also spent a number of years working visitations at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, retiring in 1991.

She was first baptized in the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls and later joined the Methodist Church, Dike. She then became a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ of Hampton. She was a member of the Mother's Club and the Women's Fellowship and Circle of the church.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond (Linda) Stewart of Grimes and Larry (Elizabeth) Stewart of Palmer, Alaska; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Verna Mae Prochaska of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Linda Stewart of Hampton; and a sister-in-law, Marion Paul of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a son, Gary; a sister, Gladdis Patten; two brothers, Donald and Maurice Paul; and a stepsister, Gladys Schnoor.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Congregational United Church of Christ, Hampton, with burial in Hampton Cemetery. Public visitation 1 to 5 p.m. today at Sietsema -Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.
